Environment & Sustainability
Many of these sites offer a daily/weekly environmentally-oriented email newsletter or digest. Last time that I checked the links they all worked - if you find any that don't then please let me know.
I have no personal or professional affiliation [other than where indicated]; here goes:
Worldwatch is a US-based non profit public policy research organization dedicated to informing policymakers and the public about emerging global problems and trends and the complex links between the world economy and its environmental support system. Check out the Research Centre link.
Some examples of popular news portals containing alerting services include:
Environment News Service (ENS)
Environmental News Network (ENN)
E-Wire
For information about EU activity [corporate social responsibility/reporting (CSR), sustainability, environment, enlargement etc.], take a look at the EurActive site here (on the left hand frame in the 'Policy Sections' area.) Ethical Corporation Magazine also contains many useful articles - especially relating to CSR.
The Open Directory Project is a massive resource - maybe a little haphazardly indexed though! No registration necessary - no email alert service though.
Envirowise also has no email updating service but loads of business-related information - and it's not simply suggested because I happen to be one of their Helpline Advisors either!
Croner [of the Env. Management - Policy & Procedures fame] portal can be found here. EDIE is also a very popular UK environmental portal. The Cameron McKenna law firm have a portal that enables you to access their 'Law-Now' legislation updating service - great for background briefs.
If you have a view about one or more of these (or perhaps other [and better] suggestions of your own) then please let me know.
You'll need to register for the email services but it's fairly painless. The usual health warnings (about the possibilities of email addresses getting scraped and therefore registrants [often unbeknown to the newsletter hosts] becoming the recipients of spam) apply.
Remember; read the Terms and Conditions and Privacy info. if you're concerned, use a 'throwaway' email address if you wish, and NEVER reply to any spam offering to be taken off their list - it's a sure fire recipe to increase your 'spammability factor' by an order of magnitude. If you don't have an effective spam filter then you should get one - I've used SpamBayes for several years and it dispenses with the >300 spam messages I get each day with >99.9% accuracy.
